at the top sticker above the rear USB port. The serial number is the 10-character code in the upper left corner of the sticker.

The service ID appears below the model number. Write down the complete service ID.
3. Press Cancel.
4. Press until Serial Number appears.

Model number is on the front, if not then look on the baack or underside to find the black metal or sticker with both on it.

Why wont my HP scanner printer work?
I have a HP5500 all in one printer scanner copier that has worked brilliantly for years. i have just uninstalled and reinstalled it, but now everything seems to work except the scanner, it states I need to download software....should this not be on the disc?Why wont my HP scanner printer work?

Yes it is possible but depends on your OS.
I did on OS X 10.3 with a compatible cups driver and a network/parallel adapter.
I used an Intel Netport, but every adapter should work (e.g. SEH).
I think OS 10.3 and newer should work with the cups driver coming up with OS X.
In OS X 10.5 its called Gutenprint. just try some HP drivers.

About 拢5 each for both black %26amp; colour, and they work fine, and don't run out of steam for a month or so, although I need do do quite a bit of photographic printing for publicity stuff.
If you don't have a big Tesco in a nearby town, (I live in the sticks a bit), then a mail order site called ';ink2u'; have very decent prices for all printers.

Hi, I have an HP PSC750 printer scanner copier and I buy my ink from asda. No problems with blocked heads etc. About half the price of the HP ones and being HP, they last forever.

Do not use Cheap Ink, I used it Twice on 2 Printers and both ended up with the heads blocked. It is not worth it. The Printer I used with the 'Good Quality Ink' is 8 years old and working perfectly. Printers do not get repaired to expensive.

Hi, I have an HP PSC750 printer scanner copier and I buy my ink from asda. No problems with blocked heads etc. About half the price of the HP ones and being HP, they last forever.

Have you tried using VIKING DIRECT mail-order? They have HP compatible cartridges at a cheaper price than HP's own?

Help My hp printer laserjet 1010 printer isn't printing properly!?
I know this is gonna sound stupid but i never had to sort the ink out in printer. Do I need to replace whole thing or can I refill. It was unused for a long while and it now prints at side but not middle of document. Someone said it may have dried out or something. Hi you can refill it the catridge for just Rs.800 (Indian Currency). And it works like a charm. But, the main draw back is the quantity it prints. Let's assume, if a original catridge is used for printing it will give 10000 copies (plain text) per month. whereas a refilled catridge just gives 4000-5000 copies. quality will be also different, but we will not find it.
In your case, u had not used the catridge and say it prints sides and not middle which means it has been dried and the pins are not capable of printing. It is waste of time and money to refill it. Just go and buy a new catridge.

Have already uninstalled/re-installed drivers and hp software several times. Printer shows online, with no device manager conflicts. It will print a test page, but will not print anything else from any other program. It shows in the print que that the document prints, the printer revs up, but does not pull paper for normal prints.. i dont get it.. tried unplugging/ replugging cables, and turning the printer off and waiting and turning it back on.. .

You could try deleting the printer from the Printer and faxes folder, rebooting the machine then going back into the Printer and faxes folder. After you have done this select File, the Server Properties and delete ALL the relevant printers. It screwed up so many of my programs, i donated it to a school. Maybe the are brainy enough to figure it out. I have an all-in-one HP and I haven't had any trouble out of it. Lexmark is a bad printer too. It prints alright, but the ink cost up the wahoo.
Have your friend run the printers trouble shooting wizard.
Go to:
START-%26gt;Control Pane-%26gt;Printer and Faxes
Right mouse click over name of your printer and select: Set as default printer

This is a *crazy* possibility which many perhaps better educated techies will scoff at but... did you try (1) power down and reboot and/or (2) different usb port: reason I ask is, I had a similar problem. I had a *powered* usb hub plugged into my computer. I placed, *apparently*, an incorrect device on it, causing my computer some grief (the device was a Maxstor external storage device for backups, and it drew power from the hub). When I placed the device on the hub it took all other devices on the hub offline. I had to remove it, plug the hub into a different usb port, and reboot to get the computer happy again...
is the printer a copier/ scanner also. if so, take the printed test page and scan it on the scanner. then the printer should work.
does the printer have any backlogged awaiting documents to be printed? if that's the case, delete those waiting to be printed. unplug the printer from the pc and wait an hour, then plug back in. hope this helps.

I am having trouble with the Cyan ink telling me that it is out of ink and I have replaced it with 4 new ones...it is only a year old and we have done all the trouble shooting online. sounds like the sensor that tells the printer that a new cartridge has been installed is either faulty or broken try cleaning out were the cartridge goes to clear any dirt off the sensor and see if that works

No it's no cheaper to refill the cartages. The ink used to refill the cartages is thinner than the orignal and will cause major problems. Use the staples brand ink. It's the same ink type just different packaging and a cheaper price.

Hp have an oddball installation procdure. Let me sum it up for you and the printer will work.
Uninstall the printer completely.
Open the printer and disconnect USB cable from it. Now, install the printer and halfway through, it will ask you to connect the USB. Connect it and let it finish the installation.
Reboot. Windows will find the printer and you will be able to print right away.I have a hp printer, but it does麓not work?
Keep the printer on and install the HP package CD. The drivers of he printer will be automatically be configured. While printing, use the HP XXX printer only, not onenote or microsoft printers. You will be able to select it when you will give the print order in the print window.

It could just be a coincidence but in case it is not try un-installing the printer and see if the flash drives now work.
Is the printer connected to the usb port?
If it is then I would assume a clash between the flash drives and the printer.
If that is the case then contact HP support.

Ive a hp photosmart 3180 printer. tried to print photos but after pressing print a 'save file as' icon shows

No you cannot. Your printer takes a 12A it is a small toner cartirdge with a smart chip.
The Ml-1610 is larger, and does not have a chip. It will nt fit in your printer, let alone register.

My HP PSC 1610 printer will not print PDF files clearly?
The printer will function and will sound like its printing but either there will be nothing on the paper or the print will be very light. I have tried changing the settings so it will print darker, but the text will still come out pretty light and the images in the PDF file will not print. I just put in a new ink cartridge and Word documents print out fine. Any suggestions? My HP PSC 1610 printer will not print PDF files clearly?

You could try downloading updated drivers from HP-if still available. But, my guess is that it's time for a printer with a USB port. Most have had them since the early 2000s.

if you are sure its full, HP may uses a mechanism to identify catridges and declared it empty by fault.
you may put an old catridge in ..let it find it...
after it runs into another error put your full catridge back in, the counter should be back to zero
(I'm not sure wether the HP4100 has this 'feature' uhhmm)
maybe one of the contacts between catridge and printer has some dirt on it, remove catridge and clean those contacts on both the holder and the catridge .. but don't use water or so
maybe the wiring between catridge-contacts and the inkhead on the catridge are damaged, you may see a dent on them somewhere.. in this case i'm afraid you need to buy a new catridge

I found that if you contact HP Customer services they will sort things out for you. Only snag I found was that it took time (hours, not days). Oh and the need for a translator to understand some of the instructions. Good luck!

Which HP Printer Should I Buy?
My husband has been looking at various printers. He is interested in purchasing a printer that has all-in-one features (scanner, printer, fax) and he specifically wants it to be HP brand. I want to buy it for him as a surprise but can't figure out which model is best?
This is a printer that will be used at home and we like to print photo's sometimes too (but don't specifically want a photo printer). We won't be printing photo's very often but we want an affordable one that will at least print clear enough on photo paper if we need to from time to time. It has to be below $100. And also what does dpi mean? I saw some that are 600 (the really cheap ones) others were 1200 etc. I kind of thought that HP model # F380 looked like a good deal for about $80 but wanted some opinions before I buy it. The one thing that I would check is that on certain HP MFD';S (Multi-Function Devices) nothing will work if either the color or black ink levels are below 20%. They might have changed this, but I used to work with them last year and that was one of the biggest complaints because the ink cartridges are not cheap. If the color was low, you could not print, scan, fax or anything, even if you never used color printing. So check it out firstWhich HP Printer Should I Buy?

HP multifunctions are a tricky lot. I would not recommend an HP inkjet all in one, it may be cheap to buy the machine but the ink cartridges are outrageously priced. Cost per page is way higher with an inkjet than with laser. HP laser multifunctions are not that popular, although all HP lasers are made by Canon, HP multifunction lasers have more design input from HP, and they are not terribly good at it.
One really good laser multifuncition that I have seen (and bought myself) is the Samsung SCX-4521FG. Not bad, good price, all the features, although it does have a few seconds of wait time compared to HP's and are a bit noisier.
But if you must buy a colour multifunction, for less than $100, quality wise they are not that much different. What you have to look at is the price of the ink. With canon, brother and epson, you can buy good cheap compatible ink. With HP, lexmark and dell you cannot. The difference is where the print head is located, if it is in the cartridge, like HP, Lexmark and Dell and others, the ink is gonna cost you a fortune, believe me you will regret it. If the print head is in the machine then all you have to buy is the ink. ie Canon, Brother, Epson.

You could probably go to the manufacturer's website and either request a replacement cd, or download the necessary drivers and install it that way.

You could probably go to the manufacturer's website and either request a replacement cd, or download the necessary drivers and install it that way.

I just bought this HP printer yesterday. I am printing my own wedding invitations on glossy presentation paper. When I have the paper type set to presentation paper or plain it prints awesome BUT it smears all over the place. Then i changed paper type to HP Brochure %26amp; flyer paper, glossy or hp everyday photo paper, semi gloss and it drys instantly and looks good but the only thing is that all my whites look pink. I have this particular printer and I want to edit the fax header so that it indicates to my clients how many pages I am going to send to them. All you need to do is got to
Control Panel --%26gt; Administrative Tools --%26gt; Services
Find the Print Spooler entry and right click. Then select Stop. Once the service is stopped, right click and start again. This will clear the printer queue. You may have to refresh the queue to see the document cleared.

You need to right click on the printer icon in your task bar (near the clock) and select the option that has to deal with documents or something. Open this window up, and highlight the document you want to get rid of. Go to the top of the window, and select the ';file'; tab, or a tab that has the option to cancel print. Cancel the print, and then refresh on one of the tabs at the top. It may take a few tries, but I usually got it to work this way.

HP printer problem with Vista new computer?
I recently bought a new laptop with Vista. I have been trying to load the
software for my HP printer but everytime I try I get an error message that says that the following registry keys do not exist so I can't load the software:

First, remove the installation completely via the control panetl 'Add/Remove software.
Then, remove the USB cable from the HP and power it on. Install the software and let the program tell you when to re-connect the USB. Do it. The installation will finish.
Reboot and windows will find the new hardware. When you get the message, their is nothing else to do but enjoy the program.

But, it could be that you had a virus that corrupted some driver files. Hopefully not. You might try using the ';System Restore'; function to go back to an earlier configuration and see if that helps, too.
It's probably not that serious, though. Try safe mode first.

First, remove the installation completely via the control panetl 'Add/Remove software.
Then, remove the USB cable from the HP and power it on. Install the software and let the program tell you when to re-connect the USB. Do it. The installation will finish.
Reboot and windows will find the new hardware. When you get the message, their is nothing else to do but enjoy the program.

No it doesn't. The printer doesn't actually know the ink level of each cartridge. It does identify each cartridge by the computer chip on them and guesses how much ink they have by how much you have used the cartridge.

You may want to buy a continuous ink system. I purchased one off of ebay for my HP L7590 and couldn't be happier. It was called the Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Cable and on the front it indicated that you can connect the USB cable from your computer to printers, hubs, and external devices. As soon as I plugged in the printer to the laptop with the cable, the notebook itself installed the drivers needed and in about 2 minutes, it was able to print out documents without the need of downloading anything. I just plugged it in and the rest was done for me. I hope that wasn't confusing... hope it helps!

I have a HP all in one printer, scanner, copier, when i want to email a pix etc, it says no internet access?

This sounds more like your computer's problem then the printer. I don't know of any printers that send emails. When HP printers encounter a problem and when I stop and restart a printer it prints several sheets of funny characters on top of the sheet. It continues for about 20 to 30 sheets. Also, if you have to turn off the printer during a print job, make sure you delete the print job off of the computer before you turn it back on. If there is a print job on the computer you will see a printer icon in the bottom right of your screen (near the time). Open that icon and right-click and cancel or delete any job listed. If you power on the printer when there is a job waiting it will print gibberish.

Why didn't you just get the drivers from hp.com for your printer?
You can go to the hp site and click Software %26amp; Drivers Downloads and make sure the Download Drivers %26amp; Software is checked and type in Deskjet 722 for the product and click the %26gt;%26gt; button. On the next page click Deskjet 722c and pick your operating system. It should show one available download.

printers are very affordable today,you can buy a good one for around$30,or do like me..find someone throwing one away and offer to get rid of it for them!! ink cartridges are the most expensive part and most walgreen drugstores (if you have one near by)will re fill ink cartridges fofr about $15.Is it possible that you printer is messed up inside ? you may just have to keep looking for generic drivers for free on the net ...Good Luck!!

Why won't the usb cord recognize my hp printer?

I had something similar happen to me when new Dell Notebook PCs and a HP Laserjet and I was surprised that Dell Technical Support couldn't help or explain why?
In the end BELKIN Technical Support bec I was using a Belkin cable explained all the nitty gritty of opening your Control Panel and then going to Hardware Devices to insure the Computer was recognizing the particular USB port to support a printer and properly installed etc.

The COMPUTER is what needs to recognise the printer. If it is not detecting the new hardware, you will have to manually ';install'; it. This will require the driver disk that came with the printer.
Dude...it's a Dell, that means a piece of crap, but XP is still XP... from the desktop, press the %26lt;F1%26gt; key to pull-up the Help window. Assuming that the USB port you are using is connected, the printer is plugged into a power outlet, the USB cord is plugged into the printer and computer, and the printer is turned on...the step by step instructions provided will allow you to install the drivers and then the printer.
